Incoloy 800 Bars

Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT are high-temperature nickel-chromium alloys that exhibit excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and corrosion at elevated temperatures. These alloys are widely used in various industries, including aerospace, power generation, and chemical processing, for applications that involve exposure to high temperatures and aggressive environments.

Composition and Properties: Incoloy 800:

  • Chemical Composition: Primarily composed of nickel, iron, and chromium with small additions of aluminum and titanium.
  • Temperature Range: Designed for service temperatures up to 1100°C (2010°F).
  • Features: Offers high strength and excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization.

Incoloy 800H:

  • Chemical Composition: Similar to Incoloy 800 but with higher carbon content for enhanced creep and rupture strength.
  • Temperature Range: Suitable for temperatures up to 1100°C (2010°F).
  • Features: Designed for applications that require improved creep resistance at high temperatures.

Incoloy 800HT:

  • Chemical Composition: Similar to Incoloy 800H but with additional aluminum and titanium for enhanced properties.
  • Temperature Range: Specifically designed for service temperatures above 1100°C (2010°F).
  • Features: Offers superior creep and stress rupture properties, making it suitable for high-temperature applications.

Applications: Incoloy 800 series bars find applications in various critical environments, such as:

  • Heat Exchangers: Due to their excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, these alloys are commonly used in the fabrication of heat exchanger tubing and components.
  • Power Generation: Incoloy 800 bars are utilized in components such as superheater and re-heater tubing in power plants, where they are exposed to high temperatures and aggressive atmospheres.
  • Chemical Processing: The corrosion resistance of these alloys makes them ideal for use in chemical processing plants, where they come into contact with corrosive chemicals and high temperatures.
  • Aerospace Industry: Incoloy 800 series bars are employed in components subjected to high temperatures in aerospace applications, including jet engine parts and exhaust systems.

Incoloy 800 Rods Manufacturing Process

Melting Bars

Melting The process begins with melting raw materials, usually iron ore, chromium, nickel, and other elements in precise proportions, in an electric furnace.

Bars Casting

Casting Once melted, the molten metal is poured into molds to create billets or slabs. These initial forms are then further processed.

Cleaning and Heating Phase

Hot Rolling The billets are heated and passed through a series of rolling mills to reduce their size and shape them into long, thin rods. This process is called hot rolling because the metal is heated above its recrystallization temperature.

Annealing

Annealing The rods are then annealed to relieve stress and improve their machinability. This involves heating the rods to a specific temperature and then slowly cooling them.

Finishing Process

Pickling The rods undergo a pickling process to remove any scale, oxide, or other impurities on the surface. This is usually done with an acid solution.

Cutting

Cutting Finally, the rods are cut to the desired length using shearing machines or other cutting methods.
