Stainless Steel 316 and 316L Bars are classified as austenitic and are used widely in many sectors due to their qualities such as; corrosion resistance, high strength, and good mechanical strength. These bars fall under the category of stainless austenitic grade, and they are employed extensively since they offer excellent performance under severe conditions.
Chemical Composition: SS 316 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with molybdenum addition that enhances the corrosion resistance properties of 316 stainless steel, and it also contains manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulphur, and carbon in lesser concentration compared with the percentage of iron, chromium, Nickel, and molybdenum. Molybdenum addition improves the corrosion resistance property of the alloy and also reduces the material cost. Stainless Steel 316L is an austenitic form of 316 that has a very low carbon content, which makes it suitable for use in chloride-impaired environments due to its capability to resist sensitization when used for welding.
Corrosion Resistance: Corrosion is one of the most significant characteristics where Stainless Steel 316/316L Bars exhibit uniqueness. They demonstrate deep performance especially in the acidic and the alkaline conditions; thus, the industries that benefit from them include chemical processing industries, marine industries, and pharmaceutical industries.
Mechanical Properties: These bars possess very high tensile strength as well as outstanding toughness as mechanical characteristics. It should also be noted that they are quite effective to be used under varying temperatures because of their heat and cold resistance.
Table Of Content
Applications: Stainless Steel 316/316L Bars is available in the market and has broad use in several industries. Some typical applications include fasteners, rotating and reciprocating shafts, valves, marine items, fasteners, and various other parts where both corrosion resistance and wear and tear properties are essential. Also, they are applied in the fabrication of surgical tools and various medical devices, which require biocompatibility and stability in different sterilisation procedures.
Machinability and Weldability: Stainless Steel 316/316L Bars, the material are appreciated for its freedom of easy to machine and easy to weld. They are easily machinable employing the conventional techniques and the 316L grade by possessing low carbon percentage minimises formation of carbides during welding and can be welded without having any negative impact on the corrosion resistance characteristics.
Surface Finish: It can come in various surface options commonly referred to as hot rolled, cold drawn, and polished bars due to its versatility in different uses and individuals’ preferences.
