Nickel 200 has a slightly higher carbon content, making it suitable for most applications requiring pure nickel. In contrast, Nickel 201 has a lower carbon content (0.02% max), which enhances its performance in high-temperature environments where carbon contamination needs to be minimized.

Properties Overview

Both Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 offer excellent corrosion resistance, especially in neutral and alkaline environments. In terms of mechanical properties, Nickel 200 Bars has a higher tensile strength (approximately 462 MPa) and yield strength (around 148 MPa) compared to Nickel 201 Bars, which has a tensile strength of about 427 MPa and yield strength of 103 MPa. Nickel 201, however, is more ductile, with an elongation of about 53%, compared to 45% for Nickel 200. This makes Nickel 201 more suitable for applications where greater ductility is needed, especially at elevated temperatures.

Applications

Nickel 200 is widely used in chemical processing, particularly in the production of caustic alkalies, anhydrous ammonia, and sodium hydroxide. Its excellent electrical conductivity also makes it a preferred material for electrical components, batteries, and electrode terminals. Additionally, Nickel 200 is used in aerospace applications, where its strength and corrosion resistance at high temperatures are critical.

Nickel 201, on the other hand, is ideal for high-temperature applications due to its lower carbon content. It is commonly used in thermal processing equipment, chemical plants, and the production of synthetic fibers. The nuclear industry also favors Nickel 201 for its resistance to high-temperature oxidation. Additionally, its ability to withstand high temperatures makes it a good choice for food processing equipment.
